What Types of Concerns Can Contact Lenses Correct?
/
Just like glasses, contact lenses are a time-tested and effective solution for some of the most common vision concerns. Contacts can correct hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), presbyopia (age-related farsightedness), and astigmatism.

A Review From a Monterey, CA, Patient
"I was traveling and forgot my contacts, so I called Monterey County Eye Associates to see if they would provide me some samples on my way through town. Wendy and her colleagues were so helpful and professional over the phone when I was really stressed. They received my faxed prescription and gave me a few days worth of my daily contacts right when I arrived." Lisa W.

Candidates for Contacts
Dry Eyes
Contacts may be uncomfortable for patients with dry eye syndrome. When your tear ducts don't produce adequate lubrication, your eyes may become itchy, sting, or water. These symptoms may worsen with contact lenses. Blepharitis is another condition that affects the eyelids and may cause trouble with comfortable contact use.
Severe Allergies
If you have severe allergies to pollen, pets, dust, and other allergens, contacts may be more uncomfortable than glasses for you to wear. Itchy, irritated eyes may worsen with contact lenses.
Age
While there is no upper age limit for contact candidates, contacts are generally not recommended for patients under ten years old. It is important to discuss whether your child is responsible enough to exercise proper, hygienic contact use and other factors with your doctor to ultimately inform whether they are ready.
