Careen Caputo, OD, MPH Optometrist
Dr. Careen Caputo graduated from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California, with a BS in Visual Science, 1990 and her Doctorate of Optometry degree, 1992. During her senior year of optometry school, she completed her ocular disease rotation at the Fort Ord Army base. She now enjoys living at the doorstep of the Fort Ord Monument established after its closure.
Dr. Caputo has continued learning and expanding her skills in keeping with advancements within optometry. She completed a therapeutic pharmaceutical agents certification (TPA)
under the supervision of Dr. Leland Rosenblum and Dr. Eric Del Piero. Several years later, she obtained her glaucoma certification from the University of Berkeley School of Optometry. Her career has ranged from working for large ophthalmology groups to owning a private practice.
Nearly 20 years after completing her optometry degree, Dr. Caputo earned a Masters of Public Health (MPH) through Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. During her MPH practicum at the Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, CA, she participated in research within an underserved Latino community. Upon completion, she developed educational materials to inform and increase awareness of diabetic retinopathy. Her achievements awarded her the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health. Her passion is to continue working in her community to provide access to quality, affordable eye care.
