Since the procedure is non-invasive, there is no recovery time, but you may experience mild symptoms after your treatment. What Can BOTOX Treat When Injected Around the Eyes?
The skin around the eyes is thin and can show signs of aging faster than other parts of the face and body. BOTOX can help you minimize the appearance of facial concerns like:
Muscle contractions around the eyes can lead to small wrinkles on the outer corners of your eyes, called crow's feet. Crow's feet occur over time due to smiling and squinting. As your skin loses its elasticity, the wrinkles become more apparent.

What to Expect When Receiving BOTOX
If you're a good candidate for BOTOX, we may offer the injections on the same day as your consultation.
Does BOTOX Have Side Effects?
Many side effects of botulinum toxin are temporary and not a cause for concern as they will subside on their own. However, if your symptoms worsen or if you have any serious symptoms, such as trouble breathing or swallowing, reach out to a medical professional right away. Common side effects and those found in studies include, but are not limited to:
Swelling
It's common to have some swelling and redness for a few hours after you receive BOTOX injections. You will be able to go about your day without needing any downtime, so if you have a busy day, you'll be fine—just be sure to avoid doing anything strenuous.
Discomfort
You might have a little pain or swelling for a day or two after you receive your injections, but don't worry—this is normal. If you feel the need, take a dose of acetaminophen to control the discomfort until it subsides on its own.
Flu-Like Symptoms (Uncommon)
In some cases—but not commonly—patients may experience feelings of fatigue or nausea, similar to what you might experience at the onset of the flu. These symptoms are typically mild and subside with rest. Avoiding alcohol, avoiding strain, and staying hydrated for the first 48 hours after treatment can greatly reduce these symptoms.
BOTOX vs. Dysport and XEOMIN
BOTOX isn't the only botulinum toxin product for cosmetic use. XEOMIN® and Dysport® are also botulinum toxin products that work similarly to BOTOX. However, a few differences separate each product. Our Monterey offices use BOTOX over competitors for many reasons:
BOTOX Cosmetic was the first botulinum toxin product to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of aesthetic concerns rather than medical conditions. BOTOX Cosmetic was approved in 2002, while Dysport was approved in 2009 and XEOMIN was approved in 2010.
BOTOX Cosmetic is reported to give patients the fastest results out of all three products. With BOTOX, effects can be seen as early as 24-48 hours after treatment. Dysport can take about two to four days and XEOMIN takes three to four.
Patients often ask for BOTOX at our office to correct deeper, smaller wrinkles around the eyes, which BOTOX is ideal for treating. Dysport, on the other hand, is ideal for large areas, such as frown lines and forehead lines because the formula spreads faster.
