How Does BOTOX Work?
BOTOX is a type of botulinum toxin that is injected into certain areas of the face to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. BOTOX works by relaxing the facial muscles. This helps smooth the skin and minimize the appearance of wrinkles.
The effects of BOTOX are temporary and last around three to six months, but may be repeated to maintain results.
What Conditions Around the Eyes Can BOTOX Improve?
The tissue around the eyes is delicate and most often the first place the signs of aging show. BOTOX can rejuvenate the appearance by improving the look of the area around the eyes.
BOTOX can be used to treat a variety of concerns. Let’s take a look at some of the most common conditions around the eyes that can be improved with BOTOX.
Asymmetrical Eyes
Some people are born with asymmetrical eyes while others may develop this condition as they age. Uneven eyelids or eyebrows can be made more even with BOTOX injections, helping to create a more symmetrical appearance.
Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet are the wrinkles that form at the outer corners of the eyes. They are very common and form as a result the muscles around the eyes responsible for smiling, laughing, and squinting.
Injecting BOTOX into these muscles can help smooth the appearance of crow’s feet and make the area around the eyes look more youthful.
Droopy Eyelids
It is common for the eyelids and the surrounding skin to lose elasticity and begin to droop. When the eyelids droop, it can make you look tired. In some cases, drooping may be so severe that it obstructs vision.
BOTOX may be used to lift drooping eyelids and create a more rested, rejuvenated appearance. It can also help improve vision that has been obstructed by drooping eyelids.
Candidates for BOTOX
Candidates for BOTOX should be in good general health and not have any open wounds or infections around the eyes.
Although BOTOX is primarily used to treat wrinkles, patients can be as young as 18 and may wish to seek treatment for asymmetry or to prevent wrinkles before they develop.
Candidates should not be pregnant and should have realistic expectations about the results of BOTOX.
